Lafite Rothschild (Heavily Damaged Label) 1947
Lafite Rothschild (Heavily Damaged Label) 1947 is a dry, very full-bodied red from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc (Pauillac, France), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are firm and acidity fresh; oak influence is noticeable. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 79-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with steak, lamb, roast chicken, roast pork.

Lafite Rothschild 1947 is a fully mature, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the illustrious Pauillac First Growth of Château Lafite Rothschild. Located at the northerly boundary of Pauillac, adjacent to Saint-Estèphe, the château vineyards are broadly split into two parcels - one which supplies the bulk of the grapes for the Grand Vin and a second parcel that is used to produce Carruades de Lafite. Vineyard plantings are around 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. "Classic Lafite elegance; lean but vibrant, with cherry, herb and chocolate flavours layered with hints of earth and tobacco." Wine Spectator, 1997
