Lourens Family Wines Howard John 2023 is a red blend from the Swartland region of South Africa. Named in honour of Franco Lourens` father, this cuvée comprises 42% Grenache Noir, 29% Cinsault and 29% Syrah, all sourced from dry-farmed bush vines planted in decomposed granite soils. The winemaking involves spontaneous fermentation with approximately 40% whole bunches, followed by 10 months of maturation in neutral 300L and 500L oak barrels. The wine reveals complex aromatics of red and black berries, fennel, fynbos, olive brine and spice. On the palate, it displays concentrated fruit, bright lemon-like acidity and fine, lithe tannins, finishing with a deeply savoury and saline quality that reflects its elegant, finessed and high-energy style.
