The Montrachet 2016 “L’Exceptionnelle Vendange des Sept Domaines” was born from the devastating frost of April 27, 2016, when much of Burgundy’s crop was lost overnight. In response, seven leading growers of Montrachet, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leflaive, Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Domaine Guy Amiot, Domaine Fleurot-Larose, Domaine Lamy-Pillot, and Claudine Petijean, chose an extraordinary path. Rather than vinifying their small surviving parcels separately, they united their harvest, pooling what little fruit remained into a single cuvée. The wine was raised over 18 months at Domaine Leflaive in just two barrels, one new and one previously used, before being bottled in a total of only 600 numbered bottles. Of these, 500 were released through a dedicated entity created solely for this project, while the remaining bottles were retained by the domaines or reserved for charitable purposes. Each label bears not only the Montrachet appellation but also the names of all seven producers.
