Merchant's description

Central Otago, in the far south of New Zealand, is one of the coldest places on earth that grows wine - and one of the best for Pinot Noir. Mount Edward is one of its original estates, founded in 1997, and now run by Duncan Forsyth, a well-known character in New Zealand wine who farms the vineyards organically and makes the wine with as little interference as possible. This is the estate's main Pinot Noir, blended from its best parcels across the region. It's fermented with wild, natural yeasts, with a portion of whole bunches left in for a little extra spice and earthy, herby depth, then aged for around a year in French oak that's mostly older - there to support the wine, not to flavour it. The result is fragrant and detailed, with red and dark cherry, a touch of wild herb and spice, and a smooth, gently grippy finish. There's real depth here, but it stays elegant rather than heavy. Serve slightly cool, around 14-16°C.
