Niepoort Vinhos is a Portuguese winery founded in 1842 by Dutchman Franciscus Marius Niepoort, and is currently led by Dirk Niepoort, the fifth generation of the family. The company, considered one of the finest Port producers, is located in Cima Corgo, overlooking the Rio Tedo, and has expanded its production to include table wines since the 1990s. Redoma Tinto is a blend of indigenous grape varieties including Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Rufete, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Cao, sourced from the Quinta de Napoles vineyard located in the Douro Valley between 150 and 500 meters above sea level. Here, the 70-year-old vines, planted on schist soils, enjoy a northern exposure and a continental climate influenced by the proximity of the ocean. After manual harvesting, whole-cluster fermentation takes place in granite vats, and the finished wine is then aged in used wooden barrels for 22 months. In the glass, the wine reveals a medium-intense color with purplish hues and bright highlights. Its aromatic profile opens with fruity notes of currant, cherry, and strawberry, over a spicy peppery background. On the palate, it is expressive and fresh, elegant, and rounded. It has smooth tannins, a well-balanced acidity, and a long, spicy finish. Try it with peppered beef fillet, roast lamb, or beef stir-fry.
