Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 1992 holds an important place in the history of English sparkling wine. Produced entirely from Chardonnay grown at the Nyetimber estate in West Sussex, it was the estate’s first sparkling wine and England’s first Blanc de Blancs, marking the beginning of Nyetimber’s pioneering approach to traditional-method sparkling wine. More than three decades on from the vintage, the wine retains remarkable freshness. It is golden in colour with a delicate mousse, showing honey and candied lemon alongside mature notes of crème brûlée and toast. The palate is soft and rich, developing flavours of baked pastry, hazelnut and vanilla bean, while lively acidity and gentle bubbles provide balance and definition. The 1992 has 8g/L residual sugar, 9g/L acidity and a pH of 3.2. Now a rare mature example of the wine that established Nyetimber’s Blanc de Blancs style, it offers both the complexity of extended bottle age and a fascinating insight into the earliest chapter of modern English sparkling wine.
