Cellar for up to 5 years. Serve chilled Ornellaia’s Poggio Alle Gazze is a unique “Super-Tuscan” style white blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Vermentino, and a small amount of Petit Manseng. Grassy, herbaceous, and full of honeysuckle and tropical fruit aromas, the palate of this wine is lean and intensely crisp. Flavors of gooseberry, pineapple, and juicy peach lead into a long, exotic finish with hints of guava and white flowers. A lively, fresh wine with more complexity than an initial whiff would show, the Poggio Alle Gazze is a fantastic summer aperitif wine to be served with chilled melon soup, shrimp cocktail, or a summer salad of peach, arugula, and slivered almonds. Hand-picked, hand sorted clusters are fermented in a combination of new oak, used oak, concrete vats, and steel tanks, giving this wine an incredible array of flavors and textures from the fermentation process. In addition, the wine does not go through malolactic fermentation to help keep its fresh, lively quality. However, to add an additional layer of texture, the wine stays on the fine lees for 6 months with regular stirring, or “batonnage”. After this, the wine sits in bottle for 12 months before it is released.
