Peter Michael Winery was founded by British businessman Sir Peter Michael in the early 1980s with a singular vision. "to make wine in the terroir-driven tradition of Burgundy and Bordeaux, under the California sun and in California soil". Consistency and quality are the principles here – the wines are clearly inspired by the poise and precision of their Old World counterparts but can`t help expressing an edge of Californian richness. La Carriere, French for the Quarry reflects the vineyards “spoon shape” and rocky soils. It lies at 366 and 518 meters above sea level on steep mountain slopes. The vineyard is known for it’s “liquid minerality” A late start the 2009 vintage followed by a balanced growing season culminated in wines with intense blossom, fruit and minerality. This is echoed on the palate with notes of lily, pear and hazelnut, sweet vanilla and acacia all balanced by the vineyards signature minerality.
