Niepoort Poeirinho 2020 is a medium-bodied red wine produced from Baga grapes in the Bairrada region of Portugal. Dirk Niepoort purchased his Quinta de Baixo property in Cordinha after developing a fascination with the long-aged garrafeira Bagas of the Bairrada region. Dirk believes the chalky clay terroir of Bairrada is the best he has seen outside Burgundy. Poeirinho is produced from biodynamically farmed centenarian Baga vines. A portion of the wine was vinified in open lagares, and the other portion fermented in stainless steel tanks. The 2020 wine was matured for two years in large oak foudres before being bottled unfiltered. Expect delicate, limpid red fruits with notes of incense and rose, and a fine, chalky palate.
