Romanee Conti DRC 2005
Romanee Conti DRC 2005 is a dry, light-bodied red from Pinot Noir (Vosne-Romanée grand cru, France), in the light, fresh reds style. Tannins are soft and acidity fresh; oak influence is some. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 21-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with duck, salmon, roast chicken, charcuterie.

La Romanée-Conti Grand Cru is a monopole vineyard of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and is often singled out as Burgundy’s greatest terroir. Originally called Cros des Cloux, this hallowed vineyard has a long and illustrious history, but its more modern era began with the first new vintage bottling from DRC in 1952, after replanting of the vines in 1947-48. 2005 was a remarkable vintage in Burgundy and this must surely go down as one of the finest ever releases of this wine. Twice rated by The Wine Advocate, it has been awarded 99 points both times.
