Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant but best to open it an hour before service. Founded in 2011 by the Drady spouses with the winemaker Anthony Austin, Sonoma Coast Vineyards is a California winery that produces artisanal wines a short distance from the ocean in an area of the Russian River Valley that benefits from a cool climate. The vines, grown sustainably on thin soils composed of sand and clay, are planted mainly with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, which achieve excellent results in this area. The Pinot Noir grapes were selected by hand and harvested in the cooler vineyards surrounding the town of Freestone. The use of Dijon clones adds complexity to the wine. The cool climate favors the slow ripening of the grapes, guaranteeing a marked acidity that balances the juicy fruitiness of the wine. In the glass, the wine shows a soft ruby color with garnet nuances on the edges. On the nose, it has a beautiful fragrance of cherry, pomegranate, and fresh raspberry, with earthy and spicy notes. On the palate, it has a medium body and soft tannins. The acidity is lively and generates a long, fresh finish. It is an excellent wine to drink immediately but can age well in the cellar for a few years. Try it with roast goose.
