The Coursodon estate is based in the village of Mauves, in Saint-Joseph and is run by fifth-generation family member, Jérôme. Though perhaps somewhat overshadowed by more famous neighbours, Pierre Gonon and J-L Chave, Domaine Coursodon is quietly producing some of the finest wines in the appellation. L’Olivaie is made from 100% old-vine Syrah aged in oak barrels for 15 months, 15% of which are new. Dark crimson in colour with subtle purple highlights, it offers a wonderful bouquet of rich black and red fruits, dried flowers and spices. On the palate it is full-bodied, powerful and rich, but beautifully layered and complex, with silky tannins and an exceptionally long, black olive infused finish.
