Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Located in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in South Africa, Storm Wines was founded by husband and wife team Hannes and Nathalia Storm in the late 2000s, with their first harvest in 2012. Today, the winery focuses on producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in limited quantities from their own plots, cultivated sustainably and with minimal intervention. The Pinot Noir grapes in clones 115, 777, and 113 are sourced from a vineyard located on a steep slope at 125 meters above sea level in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Planted in 2008, the vines enjoy a northeast exposure and are rooted in clayey, stony, and low-fertility soil. After harvesting and fermentation, the wine ages for 12 months in French oak. The result is a smooth and rich wine, revealing a clear, brilliant ruby color in the glass. Its aromatic profile is broad and intense, with floral notes of rose and fruity aromas of wild strawberries and red berries, followed by hints of orange peel and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is lively, juicy, and slightly ferrous, with a smooth texture and silky tannins. It has a refreshing acidity and a long, fragrant finish. Try it with deep-fried turkey, pork tenderloin, and duck legs.
