Dermot Sugrue is an Irish-born winemaker based in England who has gained significant recognition for his expertise in producing English sparkling wines, emphasising the low-intervention approach and meticulous vineyard practices. This is a multi-vintage still Chardonnay. the 2022 was in small new barriques for 18 months and the 2023 in large older oak for 6 months. The wine maintains the signature textural complexity balanced with laser-focused acidity. Dermot’s notes on this release - “Bonkers is a multi-dimensional, solera-aged Chardonnay. rich, creamy and savoury with a nutty, honeyed complexity from its elevage in large and small barrels, old and new. A touch of carefully controlled oxidation is balanced by a freshness and fine structure, offering delicious drinking now, as well as potential for ageing.”
