Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few years. No need to decant before serving. This Kisi wine is a stunning amber colour in the glass, thanks to prolonged skin contact inside traditional Georgian clay pots, known as qvevri. Upon uncorking, lively scents of apricot, peach, orange peel, red apples and fresh hay burst from the neck. It treads the line between rustic and elegant and is an excellent wine to start exploring Tbilvino’s incredible range with. Tbilvino has been one of Georgia’s biggest and most important wineries since its foundation in 1962. For a long time, it was purely a wine cellar, buying and fermenting fruits from growers, but ever since 2014, it has cultivated its own grapes, under the guidance of brothers Zurab and Giorgi Margvelashvili. They create a total of 29 different types of wine, hailing from some of the finest appellations in Georgia. The Kisi grapes used in this wine came from Georgia’s premier region of Kakheti, an enormous, fertile stretch of land marked by the Tsiv-Gombori Mountain Range and the stunning Alazani River Valley. It is equal parts dry and fleshy on the palate. You can discover a fruit core of peach, grapefruit and cranberries, supported by pleasantly tannic hints of walnut and dried herbs. It is best when served at room temperature, with a helping of seafood, herby chicken, or nuts.
