Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant. Located in South Moravia, north of the Czech-Austrian border, Thaya Winery produces wines from indigenous Czech grape varieties such as Moravian Muscat, as well as French, German, and Austrian varieties. The company grows its own grapes organically and processes the wines naturally with indigenous yeasts. Winemaker Jakub Smrcka manages the operations in the cellar. Gruner Veltliner is considered the most representative grape of Austrian wine production, and here near the Austrian border, it is capable of producing excellent wines. This elegant example is fermented and aged in medium-sized barrels (400 liters), to give the wine more structure without covering or influencing its aromatic profile. The wine has a clear and bright color with shiny golden tones. On the nose, it reveals a vibrant and broad aromatic profile with notes of Golden apple and pear, traces of spice and citrus peel, and light herbaceous hints. On the palate, it is well-structured and harmonious. It has a medium body and a sharp acidity. It is dry and has a strong character. The finish is long and recalls notes of honey. Try it with seafood, calamari salad, or vegetarian quiche. It is also a great match for asparagus and deep-fried artichokes.
