Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for 1 to 2 hours before serving. In the 1920s, Clemente Travaglini settled in the appellation of Gattinara, a top-notch area for growing the robust Piedmont native, Nebbiolo. Over many years and several generations of Travaglini wine-makers, the estate has steadily become a wine-making hub of great renown. One of the most striking features of Travaglini wines is their distinctive bottle. It is specially shaped to fit the hand, and the dark glass prevents light from entering the bottle, heightening the quality of the wine over time. This Gattinara is their trademark wine, typifying the region of Gattinara with its bold, delicious profile. There are hints of the classic Nebbiolo rose petal aroma on the nose, along with hints of violet. This Gattinara needs some time to breathe, which will reveal further scents of balsamic vinegar, spice and iron. It is a light, bright crimson colour, and almost transparent in the glass. The palate is elegant and perfectly balanced, displaying acidic freshness and fine tannins. You’ll discover strong flavours of tart hedgerow fruits, such as raspberry and wild strawberry, along with floral notes, and a slight hint of sweetness. Pair it with equally vibrant flavours, such as hearty pasta dishes, aged cheeses, or gamey meats, such as venison.
