Merchant's description

Château Troplong Mondot 1989 is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé composed of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. The estate’s vineyard, situated on a plateau of limestone and clay, produced a wine of massive concentration and power in this historically hot and early vintage. The wine was aged in French oak barriques, which have now integrated with the dense fruit. In magnum, it remains surprisingly youthful, displaying notes of roasted espresso, black cherry jam and iodine. The palate is full-bodied and surly, with a smooth texture and a long, decadent finish. This bottling represents the more traditional, robust style of Troplong Mondot that existed before the stylistic shift towards greater freshness in the late 2010s.
