Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Established in 2015 in Washington state by husband-and-wife team Seth and Aubrey Kitzke, Upsidedown is a young winery specializing in Rhône varietals, producing a good range of limited-quantity wines from the Red Mountain area. Equus Reserve is a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, approximately 3/4 and 1/4, respectively. The grapes are carefully selected from the high-elevation Equus vineyard, located above the alluvial plains on soils composed of ancient riverbed stones and clay. The vines enjoy an altitude of approximately 430-450 meters, with cool temperatures but excellent southern exposure. These conditions favor slow ripening of the grapes and the production of fresh, balanced wines with well-developed aromatics. In the glass, the wine reveals a dense, deep color with purplish hues. Its aromatic profile is broad and expressive, with notes of blackberry and blackcurrant, followed by herbaceous notes and a touch of chocolate. On the palate, it is soft and full-bodied, elegant and harmonious, with firm, well-integrated tannins and a subtle hint of acidity that refreshes the palate. It is concentrated and smooth, with a long, complex finish. Try it with a hearty red meat or game stew.
