Located in Washington State, with tasting rooms in Cle Elum and Hood River, Oregon, Upsidedown is a family-owned winery founded in 2015 by Seth and Aubrey Kitzke. The young company produces small-batch wines that have already received widespread acclaim from both the public and critics. The Grenache grapes are sourced from the high-altitude Equus Vineyard, located north of the Yakima Valley at approximately 1,400-1,500 feet. Here, the clay-rich soils with ancient river stones, the cool microclimate, and southern exposure ensure slow and uniform ripening and the production of grapes that preserve their natural acidity and aromatic richness. Stoney Florals Grenache is a fragrant and seductive red, an excellent interpretation of this varietal. The nose reveals a layered aromatic profile with notes of raspberry, blackberry, and wildflowers interspersed with hints of flint, cut grass, tobacco, and chocolate. On the palate, the wine is lean, lively, fruity, and mineral, with smooth tannins and a bittersweet finish that once again evokes the minerality of its terroir.
