Located in Alto Piemonte, over 150 km from the Langhe, the Vallana winery is one of the most important ones in the area. Here, the vineyards, located on terraces on the left bank of the Sesia, enjoy a gentle slope and the work is manual. In the winery, they still follow the traditional methods used by Bernardo Vallana, a figure of great importance for the wines of this territory. The name Campi Raudii, which in Latin translates as red fields, is inspired by a famous battle won by the Romans in the vicinity of the estate, after which the Romans introduced the cultivation of the vine. The wine is made with Nebbiolo grapes, and small additions of Uva Rara and Vespolina, rigorously selected and harvested by hand. Fermentation and aging take place in concrete vats. The wine has an intense and broad aromatic profile with notes of blueberry, cherry, strawberry, raspberry, licorice, and leather. On the palate, it is soft and concentrated with a good structure and a silky consistency. The tannins are well integrated and the finish is long and elegant and recalls spicy and balsamic notes. It is the ideal wine with truffle risotto or porcini mushrooms and also pairs well with tagliatelle with wild boar sauce.
