Cellar for 10 years or more. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Vilafonté winery is nestled in the mountainous region of Simonsberg, in South Africa’s Cape Winelands. It was founded in 1997 by a team of three enterprising wine-makers, Mike Ratcliffe from South Africa, Zelma Long and Dr Phil Freese from the United States. Enticed by the unique terroir of the region, the team have gone on to create an amazing, refined range of South African wine. The Cape Winelands are home to the oldest soil type in the world, vilafontés, bringing an undeniable mystique to the vineyards here. The region is also heavily influenced by the nearby ocean, which allows for a longer ripening period and complex, characterful grapes. All of Vilafonté’s grapes are sourced from vineyards owned by the winery. Series M is a powerful blend of Bordeaux varietals, mostly Malbec, but with ample amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc too. It exhibits pungent aromas of red fruit and classic scents of liquorice and chocolate. This is a perfect choice for lovers of rich, angular reds. On the palate, you will find waves of bright cherry, cranberry and blueberry flavours that grow into a long, satisfying finish. It will be fantastic paired with gamey meats or sharp, rustic cheeses such as Comté.
