Barbera del Monferrato is Piedmont's everyday red in the best possible sense; not a consolation prize for those who can't afford Barolo, but a wine that does something Nebbiolo simply doesn't: it gives you everything immediately. Villa Sparina, better known as one of Gavi's most accomplished estates, turns the same care and precision they bring to their whites to this Barbera from the Monferrato hills. The result is a wine with the grape's signature: vivid cherry fruit, punchy natural acidity, and a freshness that makes it genuinely hard to put down. The 2024 vintage in Piedmont delivered excellent freshness and aromatics, and you can taste it here. This is a wine for drinking with pleasure and without ceremony, ideally alongside food.
