Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few years. No need to decant before serving. A beautiful gold colour in the glass with amber hues, the Rkatsiteli Qvevri wine is loaded with scents of dried peach and apricot, chamomile tea, buckwheat honey and almonds. Although it is classified as a dry wine, there is an inherent, honey-like sweetness to the wine’s fruity aspects. The Rkatsiteli grapes were harvested from vineyards in the famous region of Tsinandali, before being fermented and aged in a combination of clay qvevri pots and oak barrels. Vine Ponto was founded in 2014, in the geographical heart of Georgian winemaking: the city of Telavi in Kakheti. The region is characterised by the mighty Alazani River Valley and the Tsiv-Gombori mountain range, which work in tandem to create ideal conditions for grape growing. The winery, headed by winemaker Giorgi Bakuradze, also takes a minimal intervention approach to winemaking, which allows the character of the grapes and the terroir to shine through. Vine Ponto’s Rkatsiteli Qvevri is rich and full-bodied in the mouth, with intense flavours of peach, juicy orchard fruits, and orange peel. From smooth, tea-like tannins to hints of toasted nuts, there are lots of nuances to discover on the palate of this complex wine. The finish is long and velvety. Rkatsiteli is perfect for enjoying alongside spicy Mediterranean meats, pungent cheese, or fish.
