Merchant's description

Michel Lafarge Volnay Clos des Chênes 1995 is a mature Burgundy red wine produced from the Premier Cru climat of Clos des Chênes in the Volnay commune of the Côte de Beaune. Established in the 18th century, Domaine Michel Lafarge is a family-owned wine producer based in Volnay. Currently managed by Frédéric Lafarge, the domaine is well-known for producing some of the greatest traditional Volnays, from biodynamic farmed vineyards. On the 1995 Volnay Clos des Chênes. "I`m not sure whether this wine in 750 ml (see herein) has turned out better than I originally foresaw or whether it has simply matured more successfully in magnum but this bottle managed to stand toe to toe with a top flight grand cru from the Côte de Nuits and while it was not as fine, it was actually more complex. A wonderfully expressive and layered nose that speaks of warm earth, spice and the initial hints of sous-bois leads to still moderately structured but ripe big-bodied flavours that possess the same impressive complexity of the nose and grand cru length. An excellent effort for what was a difficult vintage in the Côte de Beaune and this should drink well for a long time in this format as there is still noticeable, but not hard, or more importantly, dry finishing structure."
