Barolo Le Vigne Sandrone 1999
Barolo Le Vigne Sandrone 1999 is a dry, full-bodied red from Nebbiolo (Barolo, Italy), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are very firm and acidity very high; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 27-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with beef stew, mushroom risotto, steak, lamb.

Founded in 1978, the small estate of Luciano Sandrone is one of the most revered in the Langhe. Le Vigne was first produced in 1990 and is an old-school assemblage of the finest parcels of vines from the estate-owned vineyards in Baudana (Serralunga), Villero (Castiglione Falletto), Vignane (Barolo) and Merli (Novelli). The grapes undergo spontaneous indigenous yeast fermentation in open-top steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation and maturation in 500-litre French oak barrels.
