Barolo Monfortino Giacomo Conterno 2006
Barolo Monfortino Giacomo Conterno 2006 is a dry, full-bodied red from Nebbiolo (Barolo, Italy), in the medium, savoury reds style. Tannins are moderate and acidity very high; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 20-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with beef stew, mushroom risotto, bolognese, lamb.

Giacomo Conterno Barolo Monfortino 2006 is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo red wine from the Barolo appellation of Piedmont, northern Italy. The Barolos of Giacomo Conterno are renowned for their extraordinary combination of power, subtlety and longevity, and to many represent the apogee of Italian fine wines. The estate was founded in the 1920s and is currently operated by Roberto, grandson of winery founder and namesake. This 2006 Barolo is from the iconic Monfortino cru and is the flagship wine of the Conterno estate. "This is the wine of the vintage. It shows amazing fruit character of ripe strawberries and orange peel. The length and linear style to the line of ultra-fine tannins is glorious. It goes on for minutes after tasting it. What great structure and length. Superb." James Suckling, 2013
