Barolo Romirasco Aldo Conterno 2004
Barolo Romirasco Aldo Conterno 2004 is a dry, full-bodied red from Nebbiolo (Barolo, Italy), in the medium, savoury reds style. Tannins are moderate and acidity very high; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 22-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with beef stew, mushroom risotto, bolognese, lamb.

In 1969, Aldo Conterno broke away from the family business to establish his own winery in Bussia, Monforte d’Alba. Aldo’s three sons Stefano, Franco and Giacomo now run the winery and continue to produce some of the region’s finest wines from their 25-hectares of prime vineyards. Romirasco is one of three single cru wines crafted here, sourced from vines averaging 55 years in age. The 2004 vintage presents an enticing bouquet of sweet red berries, notes of tar, and delicate, fragrant roses. On the palate, the wine reveals its soft and supple character, marked by elegance and a lingering presence. A harmonious blend of red, black, and blue fruits harmonizes with fine, velvety tannins, making it approachable yet promising for further ageing.
