Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few years. No need to decant before serving. Leirana O Pradino offers something a little different to your average Albariño. It was aged in toasted oak for 12 months, imparting a rich, unctuous mouthfeel. On the nose, you can find bright notes of lemon, lime, and sea salt, balanced out by more rounded flavours of crystallised ginger, honey, and tonic water. Fortas del Salnes is another project that has been touched by the hand of Midas, better known in the world of Spanish wine as Raúl Pérez. It began in the 2000s, as a collaboration between Pérez and the Mendez family, and has steadily gained a reputation as one of the best Albariño producers in the country. The winery itself can be found in Rías Baixas in Galicia, the Iberian Peninsula’s most windswept corner. There are classic notes of Albariño on the palate, making this an excellent wine for pairing with seafood or a wide variety of tapas. Look for hints of Meyer lemon, grapefruit, and orange rind, with strong notes of minerality. It’s marked by high acidity and a rich mouthfeel – the long finish offers subtle flavours of spice. Perfect for those seeking a new take on the classically crisp, sea-tinged white wine.
