Casa Ferreirinha Castas Escondidas 2019 is a medium-bodied, white wine from the Douro Valley of Portugal. With its origins dating back to 1952, Casa Ferreirinha was the first Douro producer dedicated entirely to making table wines, rather than Port. Castas Escondidas translates as hidden varieties and showcases some of the lesser-known grape varieties of the Douro Valley, such as Viosinho, Gouveio, and Rabigato. These grapes are sourced from a range of vineyard sites in the Douro Superior and Cima Corgo from a combination of Casa Ferreirinha owned vineyards and trusted growers. The 2023 is a blend of 41% Viosinho, 23% Arinto/Pedernã, 20% Rabigato, 16% Gouveio (Godello), fermented in a mixture of stainless steel and French oak, with no malolactic fermentation. 50% is then aged in 500L new oak before blending and bottling. This results in a wine with bright citrus and floral notes balanced by buttery richness and a refreshing acidity to finish.
