Mouton Rothschild 2007 is one of the more satisfying bottles in this legend's recent history. The vintage was nobody's favourite on paper — a cool, uneven Médoc summer gave the critics pause — but Mouton's extraordinarily old vines on those famous gravel mounds above Pauillac produced something elegant and honest rather than big and showy. It's a wine of restraint and freshness where others from the year feel thin, and it has aged with considerably more grace than its early reputation suggested.
