Chateauneuf du Pape Beaucastel 2001
Chateauneuf du Pape Beaucastel 2001 is a dry, very full-bodied red from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France), in the rich, smooth reds style. Tannins are moderate and acidity gentle; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 25-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with lamb, roast vegetables, beef stew, barbecue.

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2001 is a mature, full-bodied red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the southern Rhône Valley. Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the iconic red wines of the Southern Rhône Tracing its history back to 1549, when Pierre de Beaucastel purchased his first plot of Coudoulet vines, the estate has been operated since 1909 by successive generations of the Perrin family. Beaucastel continues to reside among the elite producers of the region, each successive vintage crafting terroir red wines which harness the complementary characteristics of the appellation`s 13 traditional grape varieties. ""Still incredibly youthful and a touch reserved (especially when compared to the ?00), the 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape still needs another 5 years to truly shine. At present, it delivers a dense, pure bouquet of meaty dark fruits, game, ripe herb, and licoricey, medium to full -body, brilliant concentration, and a long, classic finish. This gradually opens in the glass so if drinking anytime soon, a short decant or longer double decant is recommended." Jeb Dunnuck, 2009
