Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo Pegau 2000
Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo Pegau 2000 is a dry, very full-bodied red from Grenache (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France), in the rich, smooth reds style. Tannins are moderate and acidity gentle; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 26-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with lamb, roast vegetables, steak, beef stew.

Domaine de Pegau is unquestionably one of the leading producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Cuvée da Capo is their flagship wine and is only produced in years deemed of exceptional quality, with just seven vintages ever released. It is a traditional assemblage of the 13 permitted varieties all sourced from the supreme Le Crau sub-zone but contains a significant portion of Grenache. The release from the millennium vintage is utterly superb and is only improving with age. It is wonderfully rich and decadent with extraordinarily complex layers of red and black fruits, kirsch, garrigue, liquorice, animal hide and exotic spices.
