Merchant's description

Chapelle Saint Theodoric Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grand Pin 2012 is a full-bodied, blended red wine from the southern Rhône Valley of France. Chapelle Saint Theodoric is a relatively new estate established by US importer Peter Weygandt and Baptiste Grangeon, the owner of Domaine de Cristia, also in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Grand Pin is the flagship wine of the property. It is made from old-vine Grenache growing in the lieu-dit of Pignan (next to the vineyard of the iconic Château Rayas), also known as Grand Pin owing to the presence there of several large pine trees. "Coming from sandy soils next to Rayas, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape le Grand Pin is a fresher, more focused and linear example of this cuvee. Showing sappy pine bush, Christmas spice and mint in its core of kirsch and blackberry fruit, it flows onto the palate with a seamless, elegant profile that carries fine tannin and bright acidity. It’s a finesse-drive effort, and while I’d like more backend depth and richness, it should evolve nicely through at least 2022." Jeb Dunnuck, 2014
