Chateauneuf du Pape Rayas 2000
Chateauneuf du Pape Rayas 2000 is a dry, very full-bodied red from Grenache (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France), in the rich, smooth reds style. Tannins are moderate and acidity gentle; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 26-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with lamb, roast vegetables, steak, beef stew.

Château Rayas undoubtedly sits amongst the greatest producers of Châteauneuf-du-Pape but is often also considered of equal stature to First Growth Bordeaux or Grand Cru Burgundy such is the quality of the wine produced by the Reynaud family from their 12 hectares of vines. Rayas is made from 100% Grenache from low yielding vines and is aged in a combination of seasoned demi-muids and foudres of various sizes for an average of 16 months prior to bottling. The 2000 release is now at full maturity, exhibiting fleshy notes of dried red and black fruits, liquorice, leather and spices.
