Drink now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant before serving. The story of Chelti winery in the ancient winemaking country of Georgia dates back over a century ago when the Mirianashvili family built their own cellar here in the charming village of Shilda. In 2001 Giorgi Mirianashvili founded the modern day winery here on the same land, enabling the family to craft quality wines from their own vineyards planted on the 80 hectare property. Saperavi is one of Georgia’s iconic and ancient indigenous grape varieties which is especially known for producing deep, inky black wines. This striking example is produced using traditional methods from grapes grown at the foot of the mighty Caucasus mountain range. The fruit is then carefully fermented and left to mature in neutral vessels for two years before bottling. These bottles are then stored in the cellar for an additional ageing period. The result is an intensely-hued red wine that is bursting with enticing aromas of black cherry, plum, and wild forest berries along with hints of undergrowth and fresh mint. Although it is ideal to serve alongside red meat dishes and charcuterie, it can also be enjoyed on its own or kept in the cellar for a few more years if desired.
