Merchant's description

Domaine Emile Champet Côte-Rôtie 1986 is a mature-vintage Syrah red wine from the Côte-Rôtie appellation of the northern Rhône. Founded by Emile Champet in the early 1960s, Domaine Emile Champet is justly admired as a producer of no-nonsense, terroir-driven Syrah from the northern Rhône Valley`s famed Côte-Rôtie. The domaine is run my Emile`s son, Joël, who joined his father in 1985. He is now assisted by his own sons, Romain and Maxime. Champet Côte-Rôtie is seen as the antithesis of the heavily oaked, super-concentrated northern Rhône Syrahs that came into prominence in the 1990s. While 1986 was an inconsistent vintage, Côte-Rôtie did produce some very good, long-lived wines.
