Damilano is a family-run winery located in Piedmont, in the municipality of Barolo, boasting over a century of history. The company was founded in 1890 by Giuseppe Borgogno and was later renamed Damilano in 1935 when Giacomo, Giuseppe's son-in-law, took over the reins. Today, the estate owns over 50 hectares of vineyards, and makes some excellent wines including Barolos from some of the area's most important crus. The Nebbiolo grapes are sourced from hillside vineyards in the Langhe region, which are planted on calcareous-sandy soils. After harvesting and fermenting in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, the wine rests for a year in large barrels before bottling. The result is an expressive wine with a brilliant ruby color and garnet highlights. On the nose, it reveals a broad and delicate aromatic profile with notes of red berries and violets, followed by light spicy and herbaceous hints. On the palate, it is elegant and balanced, with a smooth texture and a well-defined and integrated tannic backbone. It has a medium to full body and a refreshing acidity. The finish is long and harmonious. It's the perfect wine to pair with mushroom risotto.
