This offering from Domaine Roger Belland is a stunning expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s finest appellations. Clos Pitois opens with an intriguing nose of underbrush, ripe red fruits, and toasted almonds, with underlying hints of sun-baked earth and spice. It comes from the Clos Pitois vineyard, a monopole owned by the Belland family with stony, clay-rich soils, imparting remarkable depth and complexity to the wine. The Belland family has been producing wine in Burgundy for over a century, with a focus on sustainable, organic viticulture and traditional winemaking techniques. Their vineyards are harvested by hand and are currently under the leadership of fifth- and sixth-generation winemakers Roger and Julie Belland, a father and daughter combination. The palate is rich and well-structured, with flavours of raspberry, sour cherry, and garrigue, all elevated by vibrant acidity and a silky tannic texture. The finish is long and laden with minerals, with lingering notes of spice and umami-tinged forest floor. The grapes were plucked from 50-year-old Pinot Noir vines, before being aged for 1 year in French oak. Perfectly enjoyable alone, this wine will also be fantastic alongside a roast chicken, a charcuterie board, or a mushroom risotto.
