Founded as part of the prestigious Duckhorn Vineyards brand to offer wines of great quality at affordable prices, Decoy has, over time, gained an excellent reputation. The fruit for Decoy wines is selected from the best winemakers in Sonoma County and other areas of California. Today, the company produces a wide range of wines to be drunk young which includes, in addition to the red Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, the white Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, a Rosé, and a sparkling wine. The wine is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small addition of Merlot. The grapes are selected in some of the most prestigious vineyards in the Alexander Valley. The finished wine is aged in French oak barrels (40% new) for approximately 14 months. This excellent, soft, and mature Cabernet Sauvignon has an intense red color. The nose reveals intense aromas of red and dark fruit, especially blueberry, blackberry, and plum, notes of violet, and some hints of sweet spices. On the palate, it is intense and juicy, concentrated, and with silky tannins. It has a good acidity that balances everything. The finish is long and sweetly spiced. Try it with grilled pork or a succulent burger.
