Alvaro Palacios is unquestionably one of the most significant Spanish winemakers to emerge over the past 30 years. Having studied oenology in Bordeaux, he began his winery in Priorat back in 1989 with the aim of utilising fruit from extremely old, low-yielding vines and modern winemaking techniques to create world class wines truly expressive of their terroir. This cuvée represents his “village” red with fruit being sourced from several vineyards across the village of Gratallops. Composed of 85% Garnacha, 13% Cariñena and 2% white grapes, it exhibits wonderful notes of red and black fruits, wild herbs and slatey minerality. A cooler and more elegant vintage, this perhaps has less power and earlier drinking appeal than other releases.
