Hermitage Rouge Chave 1999
Hermitage Rouge Chave 1999 is a dry, very full-bodied red from Syrah (Hermitage, France), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are very firm and acidity moderate; oak influence is some. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 27-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with lamb, beef stew, steak, venison.

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 1999 is a definitive expression of Syrah from the hallowed Hermitage hill in the Northern Rhône. Chave meticulously blends fruit from various lieux-dits, including Les Bessards for structure, L`Ermite for aromatics and Le Méal for richness. The 1999 vintage was a spectacular year for Hermitage, yielding wines of great aromatic purity and balanced acidity. This double magnum has allowed the wine to mature at an exceptionally slow rate, retaining a youthful primary fruit character that is often lost in smaller formats.
