Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour and half. The J. Lohr Estates family business was founded in the 1970s by Jerry Lohr who now works with his three children Steve, Cynthia, and Lawrence. This pioneering company in the field of sustainability is also one of the leaders of California viticulture. The estate vineyards span over 4,000 acres in the Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey, Paso Robles, and St. Helena in Napa Valley. The wine is produced from a blend mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, with small additions of Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah which give consistency to this easy-to-approach wine. The grapes come from J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks vineyard and two new sites just north, J. Lohr Sinclair and J. Lohr Jones Ranches. The different soil types contribute to the layered complexity of the wine. The final wine is aged for 12 months in 60-gallon Missouri and Minnesota oak barrels. This juicy Cabernet Sauvignon is a dense wine with ripe aromas of black cherry and currant followed by notes of hazelnut and vanilla. On the palate, it shows soft tannins and good structure. There is a good concentration of fruit, especially ripe cherry and, on the finish, there are slightly spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Try it with pulled pork, lasagna bolognese, and fettuccine with meat sauce.
