Lomtadze Family Wine is a small family-run winery located in the village of Velistsikhe, in the Kakheti wine region, in the eastern part of Georgia. The family has ancient winemaking traditions that date back to the 20th century and today owns approximately 2 hectares of organically cultivated vineyards, where native vines such as Alexandrouli, Mujuretuli, and Tetra Tsulukidze are grown. Their wines are made using both modern and ancient techniques, such as that of Qvevri. Lomtadze Family Wine Khvanchkara is a blend of local Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes from vineyards located in the Racha region of western Georgia. Here the good exposure and the long hours of sunshine guarantee excellent ripening of the grapes which reach a high level of natural sweetness. This semi-sweet red wine displays a clear, brilliant color with ruby tones. Its aromatic profile reveals notes of berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, and then cherry, pomegranate, and plums, followed by some slightly spicy hints. On the palate, it is smooth and balanced with gentle, soft tannins and well-balanced acidity. It has a long and slightly spicy aftertaste and goes deliciously with charcuterie boards and nutty cheeses such as French Comté.
