Montevertine Rosso 2001
Montevertine Rosso 2001 is a dry, full-bodied red from Sangiovese, Cannaiolo, Colorino (Chianti Classico, Italy), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are firm and acidity very high; oak influence is some. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 25-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with steak, lamb, venison, cheese board.

‘Rosso’ is Montevertine’s historic wine, produced from 1971 to 1981 as Chianti Classico and from 1982, following their withdrawal from the Chianti Classico Consortium, simply as Montevertine. Made from selected Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino grapes, the wine matures for two years in barrels of Slavonian and Allier oak. The 2001 harvest was smaller than normal in Tuscany, but the quality was good producing rich, tannic and full-bodied wines.
