Established in 1994, Sine Qua Non is possibly one of the most famous Californian cult wineries. The creation of maverick winemaker, Manfred Krankl, this winery is world-famous for producing miniscule quantities of unique Rhône Valley-inspired blends using fruit from high quality vineyards across the Central Coast. This 2004 release is a blend of 84% Grenache, 8% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah and 1% Viognier sourced mostly from the estate-owned 11 Confessions Vineyard. It is incredibly richly fruited with layers of cassis, black raspberry and cherry, but offers delicious savoury counterpoints of dark chocolate, wood smoke, star anise and graphite.
