Sociando Mallet 1985
Sociando Mallet 1985 is a dry, full-bodied red from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot (Médoc, France), in the rich, smooth reds style. Tannins are moderate and acidity fresh; oak influence is noticeable. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 41-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with steak, lamb, roast chicken, roast pork.

Château Sociando-Mallet 1985 is a mature-vintage, Cru Bourgeois red wine from the Bordeaux region of France. Château Sociando-Mallet produces full-bodied wines with a deep, dark colour. Their complex bouquet is usually dominated by black fruit aromas with a touch of minerality and well-integrated, elegant oak. "The 1985 Sociando-Mallet, picked between September 30 and October 18, has a very savoury bouquet with scents of Italian cured meat, dry straw and a touch of black fruit that is usurped by strong black truffle and smoky scents. It is firmly into its secondary phase, but what I appreciate is that it is very “1985.” The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, more cohesive and with greater density than the 1983. It is focused and, despite the aromatics, feels vivacious and lively all the way through to the finish. Fact is, this is as good as the 1982 Sociando-Mallet and represents one of my favourite wines of the decade." Vinous, 2019
