Located in Randazzo in the Calderara district of Etna, Sicily, Tenuta delle Terre Nere is a young winery founded by Marc de Grazia, a key figure in the revival of Etna wines. Today, the company owns approximately 50 hectares of vineyards, producing excellent volcanic wines from native grape varieties. The Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes are sourced from estate-owned vineyards located on volcanic soils in the municipalities of Castiglione di Sicilia and Randazzo. The bush-trained vines vary greatly in age; some are recently planted, while others range from 50 to 140 years old, and some are even ungrafted. After harvest, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, and the finished wine rests in large barrels for approximately 10 months before being aged for another month in the bottle. In the glass, Etna Rosso Tenuta delle Terre Nere reveals a brilliant, intense ruby color and a lively, fragrant aromatic profile with fruity notes of red berries and cherries, followed by hints of sage and sweet spicy touches. On the palate, it is fresh, balanced, and juicy, with smooth tannins and a pleasant minerality. It has a refreshing acidity and a long, rich finish. Try it with pasta alla norma or a cheese and charcuterie board.
