Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Founded in 2015 by husband and wife team Seth and Aubrey Kitzke, Upsidedown is an emerging family-owned winery in Washington state that produces excellent white and red wines of the highest quality. Produced in limited quantities most of the winery's wines, Birds Things Flowers Syrah is a red made from grapes sourced from Equus Vineyard, a plot located at an elevation of 1,400-1,500 feet north of the Yakima Valley above the Missoula alluvial plains. Here, the vines enjoy southern exposure and soil composed of ancient riverbed stones and clay. These conditions and the cool temperatures ensure slow ripening, with excellent acidity development and full expression of the aromatic profile. After whole-cluster fermentation, the finished wine ages in barrel for a year and a half before bottling. The result is a fresh and clean wine that reveals notes of berries and dried flowers on the nose, the varietal's typical black pepper aromas, and hints of tapenade and lavender. On the palate, it is dense and juicy, soft and savory with ripe tannins and a pleasant refreshing acidity. The finish is long and peppery. It's the ideal wine for beef brisket and grilled meats.
