Merchant's description

Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it an hour before service. Located in the northern municipality of Montalcino, the Valdicava winery was purchased in 1953 by Bramante Martini, grandfather of the current owner, Vincenzo Abbruzzese. The estate, which extends across approximately 10 hectares of vineyards, enjoys a strategic location with a unique microclimate influenced by the woodland breezes of Mount Amiata and tempered by the warm currents of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Since the 1980s, when Vincenzo Abbruzzese took over the reins of the company, cultivation has been converted to organic and biodynamic methods to produce excellent wines that fully express the character of the terroir. The Sangiovese Grosso grapes (the local clone) come from very low-yielding vineyards located in one of the coolest areas of the appellation, at an altitude of approximately 300 meters, on clay, sand, and limestone soils. After harvesting and vinification, the wine ages in wood for a year before bottling. The result is a wine of great character, crafted with the same care reserved for Brunello. Rosso di Montalcino Valdicava has a broad and complex aromatic profile, with powerful red-fruit notes interspersed with balsamic and forest-floor notes. On the palate, it is silky, intense, and structured. It has a medium-full body and a lively, refreshing acidity that nicely balances its fruit concentration. The tannins are firm and well-integrated, and the finish is long and smooth. Try it with fettuccine with Bolognese ragu.
